The day was brisk and a sharp breeze rushed through the castle walls. The Great Hall was brimming with students all either eager or dreading their first classes. Many of the people who were dreading them were Maxxie Walker. They had been put with the Dolose 'lot' for pretty much everything... again. Why couldn't they go with the decent ones? Maxxies sighed and played will his cornflakes.
As he ran his hand through his hair he looked up along the table. Occasionally smiling to a few people. Sighing again he waited for someone to sit with him or make a convosation.

"Maxxie!!!" Crystal skipped up to him and flopped down in a seat next to him. They weren't what you would commonly consider as best friends but having been in the same house for 7 hours you sorta got to know one another. "What's up? Whatcha doin? We're taking the same classes right? You takin' divination? Ugh, I hate that class. Crack-pots!" Crystal rolled her eyes and took a breath. She loved talking a mile a minute. It confused a lot of people.
"Ooh, I got a whole bunch of mail-order dungbombs and I can't decide where I should let them off first. Whatcha think? Oh, never mind. It's okay, I know. I'll let them off in the dungeons. You can't breath down there anyway." Suddenly, Crystal couldn't stand it anymore and she burst out laughing. "Okay, sorry, I really shouldn't talk that fast. Bad habit."

Katherine walked into the great hall reading one of her new books she had just bought. She was considered one of the sterotypical Mentison students. Smart, quiet and always had her nose in a book. That of course wasn't true, people only really noticed her when she was reading or they bumped into her.
She took a seat at the first seat she could find not even noticing if anyone was around her and watching her. She reached over and grabbed the last buscuit in the plate in front of her then took a large bite. She had gotten up late so this would be the only thing she was eating until lunch. A little somewhat stale buscuit.
Katherine folded the corner of her page and shut her book. She played with the stud in her nose to make sure it had closed itself around the ring. Glancing up, she saw two Fortitudo students talking and felt envious of the laughter the two shared. She turned her head away but kept glancing back so it wasn't like she was staring. Katherine didn't want more people to think she was a freak.

"Arrrggghh! CRYSTAL!!!!!" He squealed back to her. As she started to talk really fast Maxxie made noises of understanding like "Ah-Ha" and Mmmhmm" When she finished he laughed and spoke in a really slow American voice "Oh My God!" He threw his blonde head back in laughter. Finally he pulled himself together "You could have told me you were ordering dungbombs. I need to stock up." He smiled at her. When she aplogised for speaking too fast he replied honestly "No. I like talking quick. It usually confuses people." He slapped his head and crossed his eyes to make him look confused "I do it a lot, so your okay going it round me"
When another body walked in Maxxie subconciously looked over Crystal's shoulder. "Who is that?" He asked Crystal "I've seen her around. She's our year isn't she?" He asked her again. But before she could answer Maxxie had stood up and wandered over. "Sorry. I noticed you looking at us as well as coming in. I'm Maxxie." He held out his left hand, he ran his right hand threw his blonde hair and smiled encouragingly.

Katherine looked at Maxxie's hand uncertain what to do next. Slowly though she reached out her hand and shooked it, a little confused. She bit the side of her lip and felt her face go red as she let go. Katherine was embarssed she was caught looking at the laughing pair.
"I'm sorry," she said qiuetly while looking down at her lap. "I didn't mean to stare...it's just...uh...never mind." she told him. Suddenly something hit Katherine in the back of the head. She turned and saw some Dolose's laughing.
"I'm Katherine," she told Maxxie while turning back to him and kicking whatever hit her away from her.
