The Person Behind the Character
Your Name: Ai Age: Old enough... How Long have you been RPing: About six years, give or take Contact Information: Either PM through the board or message me to get my IM screen name
Your Character Basics:
Name: Hugo Septimus McAllistair Nicknames: Septimus Age: Twenty-four Gender: Male Blood: Muggle-born
Physical:
Appearance:
Hugo stands at about five foot, nine inches tall, has light skin and short black hair. He keeps it cut fairly short, but occasionally allows some stubble to grow on his chin. His build is very slight and he has little muscle. His arms and hands have their share of scars on them, many from his own mishaps in classes.
His eyes are dark and usually narrowed at one of his students, most notably almost any first year who bothers to walk anywhere near his classroom without the proper materials for class. Most of his expressions - save smirking and sneering - are communicated with his eyes. Occasionally they are hidden behind black-rimmed glasses.
Since he was born and raised by non-magical folk, he finds it odd to wear the robes of the magical community. Often he will wear a button-up shirt, slacks and a tie underneath his unbuttoned robes. His clothing tends to be in the darker shades, usually dark blue, green or black. His tie is often untied; it strikes him as being unimportant to keep his appearance sharp.

Personality:
Hugo is not what you would think of as a clear-cut Mentison. He's cunning, he knows what he wants and he will utilize every resource he has in order to achieve what he desires. If he had been a student at Elemental, he probably would have been sorted into Dolose. However, his love of books and his Muggle upbringing have pushed him into the realm of being closer to the House of Mentison.
As a professor, he is demanding on what his students need to know in his class. He is a good teacher, but a difficult man to get along with. Brilliant to a fault, his greatest fault is probably that he is so insistent upon his students doing things the right way that he has trouble seeing how good people are. He tends to be a pessimist and a perfectionist. He will deduct points for being late, for talking out of turn and for any number of small faults he can find. Except for messy handwriting. Nor will he hesitate to give out detention; he prefers to do this rather than to deduct House points.
To his co-workers and to many of the students a first glance would merit one catagorizing him as a slightly cranky and very bookish loner who doesn't want his students to pass. However, once someone has spent time in his class, it becomes more evident that all he really wants is for the students to really understand what they are supposed to be learning. Hugo is not necessarily the kindest person, either; he tends to make snitty remarks at the expense of others and often singles out a student in each class to pick on the most.
Despite what he appears to be, he is capable of being compassionate towards others. Few people see this side of him. Even if they take the time to see past his rough exterior, he keeps his heart hidden in an icy wall. Because he was bullied in school and lost his parents at a younger age, he has trouble accepting others and is very much a loner. The only person he accepts as family-type status is Aislynn Celeste, a former graduate student who worked under his father and introduced him to the magical world.

He has some level of Occlumency skills, due to that being a taught subject at Northpointe; he is probably better than he seems to be at it.

Birthday: January 3 Parents: William and Clarissa McAllistair Siblings: None History:
Hugo Septimus McAllistair was born in the seventh minute of the seventh hour to William and Clarissa McAllistair on January third in Seattle, Washington. His father was a mathematics professor at University of Washington in Seattle and his mom worked in the music industry. He spent most his growing up days there and attended elementary school. He was a quick learner and loved books, science and mathematics. When he was in third grade, his mom started teaching him how to play violin; Hugo has been playing it ever since.
When he was nine, strange things began happening around his house. Odd things kept occurring that natural science could not explain no matter how hard William tried. The only explaination lay within the realm of magic. Neither William nor Clarissa had ever had any contact with the magical world; they were both Muggles. Thankfully, a graduate student of William heard about what was going on and she knew about the world of magic.
It was soon after that Hugo got his invitation to Northpointe, a school of magic for those living in America and Canada. Aislynn Celeste, the aforementioned graduate student, accompanied him to get his school supplies and then to the train station. While at school, Hugo's love of learning grew and he found he could hardly satisfy his lust for knowledge.
He attained decent grades, made one or two friends and got into his own share of trouble while at Northpointe and he graduated with high marks. His best classes were Arithmancy and Potions, though his DADA marks were high on the list. At Northpointe, Hugo would be remembered for being the Muggle-born kid with his nose in a book who managed to get sorted into the same House with mostly purebloods. The hardest thing for him was that there was a group of purebloods from his House who decided it was their mission to make his life miserable. His parents died in his fifth year from a car accident; ever since then, he has gone home to spend the holidays with Aislynn Celeste and her family.
After leaving Northpointe, Hugo knew he wanted to stay in the magical world. He looked at many places to apply and saw that Northpointe had a few openings. Quickly, he applied and was put in the position of assistant professor for Potions. He enjoyed that job, but after three years, he felt like it was time to move on. Northpointe had given him a good place to start; now it was time to go out into the world and show everyone what a Muggle-born could really do. And that is where we find him today...

The young man finished loosening the bowstring on his violin bow and put it in the case, fastening both instrument and bow in their respective places. With one last glance, he shut the case firmly closed and a slightly scarred hand ran itself gently over the hard plastic. The violin had been a gift from Patrick and Nadia, the closest thing he had ever possessed to grandparents. In reality, they were Aislynn Celeste’s grandparents, but since he had been unofficially adopted by the Celeste family, he had looked to Patrick like a grandfather and Nadia, a grandmother.
There was a soft knock at the door and a petite woman with pink hair entered. “Leaving already?” Aislynn’s voice was quiet; she was easily ten years Hugo’s senior, yet in most ways, they acted as though they were about a year apart in age and it was difficult to tell who was older when they were together. “I thought I’d offer to help you pack, but it seems you’ve gotten it all.” She smiled and Hugo nodded curtly.
“I leave tomorrow morning for Elemental.” Although Hugo kept a straight face, there was a certain hesitation in his voice that Aislynn could have easily picked up on, had she been paying attention. He had little love of other people; had he been able to pick up a regular job in an office or lab and actually enjoyed himself doing it, he would have. However, he had such a strong love of the magical world that there was little anyone could do to keep him away from it. He flopped down on the bed next to his trunk. “Damn, Aislynn.” Hugo ran a hand through his dark hair. “I thought I really wanted to go somewhere new, but now I’m not so sure. Northpointe’s been home to me since I was eleven.”
[“And you’re sure you want to resign?” Circe Collins asked. As the Headmistress of Northpointe, she was in charge of hiring the new professors. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to find someone who’s well-rounded in time and you know I value your opinions more than those of other junior professors.” She didn’t have to mention that his qualifications in Arithmancy and Defence Against the Dark Arts – not to mention the fact he could lecture in Muggle Studies – allowed him to be shuffled around from class to class if necessary.
Hugo nodded. “I’m well aware of that, and thank you,” his voice was deadly even as he gave his farewell to the Headmistress and walked out of her office. On his way out, Melchior Montgomery stopped him.
“You leavin’ already?” the Astronomy professor was only a few years older than Hugo was and a member of the same House. He had been one of the pure-bloods who decided to make Hugo’s life miserable during their school days. Since graduation, they remained on civil speaking terms, but there was always tension present when the two of them were together. Hugo’s cold glare met Melchior’s eyes. “Hey Mudblood, don’t go gettin’ into trouble, ye here me?” It took nearly all of Hugo’s self-control to keep from lashing out at Melchior; instead, he settled on an icy glare and left the Headmistress’ office.]
“Maybe it was never home, after all.” There was a regretful tone to Hugo’s voice as he sat up. Imprints from the comforter were evident on his pale arms from the few moments he spent relaxing on the bed. But the time for resting was done; he had to make sure he had everything he would need. Mentally, he ran through a checklist. Clothing, books, his wand, the violin, packets of Earl Grey tea, his old miniature chess set and Gil-galad’s cage. He knew the falcon would be flying on his own; he had trained his pet well enough.
It was then Aislynn stood up to leave the room. “I’ll come visit when I have time off work, alright?” As she gave Hugo a quick side hug, he nodded. He was sure Northpointe was not home, but could he consider Elemental to be a new home for him and a new family? Or was here with Aislynn and Patrick and Nadia where he truly belonged? The twenty-four-year-old Potions professor was soon to find out; he was scheduled to leave tomorrow morning. With that though in mind, he zipped his suitcase shut, careful to leave his wand lying on top. He would carry that with him when he travelled, just in case.

Alrighty, my application is complete. Please let me know if there's anything else you need from me and feel free to shuffle him around to either DADA or Arithmancy, as long as it's temporary.
